JAAI Hosts 1st JAAI Lecture on Managing the COVID-19 Pandemic: Lessons from Japan for Indonesia

The JSPS Alumni Association of Indonesia (JAAI) spearheaded a timely virtual symposium on July 24th, 2020, titled “Managing COVID-19 Pandemic – Experience from Japan and Lesson Learned for Indonesia.” This crucial event aimed to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration between Indonesian and Japanese experts in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.

The symposium commenced with a welcoming address by Dr. Herry Yogaswara, Head of the Research Center for Population at LIPI. Dr. Yogaswara served as the esteemed host for the event. Following the introduction, Dr. Wahyu Dwianto, Chairman of JAAI, delivered opening remarks, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in tackling the global pandemic.

The symposium featured three distinguished speakers:

  • Professor Atsuro Tsutsumi, a renowned expert from Kanazawa University, Japan, shared valuable insights on Japan’s approach to managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Syarifah Aini Dalimunte, M.Sc., a Ph.D. candidate at Nagoya University and researcher at the Research Center for Population at LIPI, provided a perspective on the Indonesian experience.
  • Firman Budianto, M.A., a researcher from the Research Center for Area Studies at LIPI, potentially offered additional insights or moderated discussions.pen_spark

By sharing their expertise and experiences, the speakers fostered a valuable platform for knowledge exchange. Indonesian participants likely gained valuable insights from Japan’s approach to managing the pandemic, while the symposium also facilitated discussions on potential adaptations of those strategies to the Indonesian context.

Professor Yoshio Otani, Director of the JSPS Bangkok Office, delivered closing remarks at the symposium’s conclusion. Professor Otani expressed his gratitude to all participants involved, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration in the face of the global pandemic.
