About JSPS Alumni Association of Indonesia

JSPS Alumni Association of Indonesia (JAAI) is a community established in December 2016 for Indonesian researchers who have participated in programs offered by JSPS, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. JSPS is a Japanese government agency that works to advance science in Japan and on a global scale by providing fellowships, grants, and other opportunities for researchers. JAAI joins a network of similar associations around the world, all aiming to connect former JSPS fellows and foster collaboration in scientific research.

Background of JAAI

Celebrating a legacy of collaboration between the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) and Kyoto University, our foundation is built on a long-standing partnership that has fueled scientific progress and innovation.

1978
JSPS – LIPI Memorandum of Understanding (MOU),
1983 - 1993
JSPS – LIPI Exchange Scientists Program, 1983-1993 (10 years) with Wood Research Institute (WRI), Kyoto University.
1996 - 2005
JSPS – LIPI Core University Program in the field of Wood Science, 1996-2005 (10 years).
Theme: Science for Sustainable Utilization of Forest Resources in the Tropics.
Achievements: conducted International Symposium of Wood Science for every two years and establishment of Indonesian Wood Research Society (IWORS) in 1997.
2006 - 2010
Wood Science School (WSS) (2006-2007)
- Humanosphere Science School (HSS), 2008-2010 with Research Institute of Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH), Kyoto University.
- International Symposium of Sustainable Humanosphere (ISSH), A Form of HSS, (2011- up to now)

Establishment of JAAI

From its initial workshops in late 2015 to the pivotal declaration and congress in November 2016, JAAI’s journey began with the collective vision of over 150 members. Officially sanctioned by JSPS in December 2016 and inaugurated in Jakarta on March 9, 2017, JAAI stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit of Indonesian JSPS alumni, dedicated to advancing science and contributing to national development.

Objectives

The JAAI is a science organization of Indonesian Alumni of JSPS for improving their profession and science, integrating all potency and their participation in development of nation and state of the Republic of Indonesia. The objectives of JAAI are:

  • to promote scientific exchange and research and cultural collaboration between Indonesia and Japan
  • to encourage establishing collaborative networks between the JSPS alumni with Japanese scholars through organizing scientific meeting and symposia
  • to conduct social services
